Running April 17th through April 26th, 2026, Green Week is a 10-day community movement celebrating the ecology, economy, and culture that put Humboldt County on the map. From the Arcata Creamery District to the halls of Cal Poly Humboldt, this county-wide event series connects people, planet, and prosperity in a way only Humboldt can.
Presented by Humboldt Green Events and Cannifest, in partnership with the Arcata Chamber of Commerce and the nonprofit Community Pride and Peace (A DreamMaker Project), Green Week 2026 is the most ambitious iteration of this movement yet.
"Green isn't just a color. It's a lifestyle." — Stephen Gieder, Founder, Humboldt Green & The Ganjery
What Is Green Week Humboldt?
Green Week Humboldt is an annual, multi-day celebration of the "Humboldt Green" philosophy: the belief that caring for our land and each other creates a resilient, peaceful community for future generations. Over the past two decades, the movement has grown from a local grassroots effort into a county-wide institution rooted in three core pillars:
Community Pride & Peace — neighborhood cleanups, peace walks, and public space activation in Arcata and McKinleyville
Youth & the Beauty of Farming — hands-on workshops, planting activities, and education around sustainable agriculture
The Businesses That Power Us — spotlighting the Humboldt entrepreneurs and local economy that sustain our quality of life
Whether you're a legacy farmer, a student, a small business owner, or a lifelong Humboldt resident, Green Week is built for you.

Green Week 2026 is a celebration of that, and a reminder that the best chapters of this story are still being written. We are so proud to be back. 📖 The History of Green Week in Humboldt County
Green Week in Humboldt County is more than an annual celebration—it is a reflection of decades of culture, agriculture, and community rooted in one of the most iconic regions in the world. To understand Green Week, you have to understand Humboldt itself.
Humboldt County, part of California’s famed Emerald Triangle, became a global epicenter of cannabis cultivation during the “Back-to-the-Land” movement of the 1960s and 1970s. Migrants seeking self-sufficiency settled in the region, cultivating cannabis alongside food crops and building a lifestyle centered on sustainability, independence, and connection to nature. Over the following decades, cannabis evolved from a small-scale, underground practice into a defining economic and cultural force in the region. Despite periods of intense enforcement in the 1980s and 1990s, Humboldt farmers continued refining their craft, establishing a reputation for high-quality, sun-grown cannabis that helped shape global standards. Green Week emerged as a modern expression of this legacy—bridging Humboldt’s deep agricultural roots with a broader focus on sustainability, community, and local business.
🌿 A Celebration of All Things Green
While Humboldt’s cannabis heritage is a key part of its identity, Green Week is intentionally much bigger than cannabis alone. At its core, it is a celebration of all things green—a tribute to community, local business revitalization, family connection, and the shared responsibility of caring for the environment.
Throughout the week, the focus expands to include eco-conscious living, regenerative practices, local agriculture, art, education, and small business support. It brings together families, students, farmers, entrepreneurs, and community leaders in a way that reflects Humboldt’s nurturing spirit.
Green Week champions values that define the region: sustainability, stewardship of the land, and a deep respect for Mother Earth. From community cleanups and educational events to local markets and cultural gatherings, the message is clear—this is about building a healthier, more connected future for everyone.
🌲 From Local Roots to Cultural Movement
In its early years, Green Week included events like the Humboldt Garden Expo (2012–2015), which created a platform for farmers, artisans, and local businesses to openly share their work. This marked a turning point as Humboldt’s culture began stepping into the public eye.
By the mid-2010s, Green Week helped spark larger events like Cannifest, growing into a regional celebration of music, culture, and community. These gatherings symbolized a shift toward normalization and pride in Humboldt’s legacy.
Today, Green Week stands as a 10-day, county-wide movement connecting environmental stewardship, youth education, and economic development. Events range from workshops and cleanups to live music and local showcases—uniting the community around a shared vision.
As Humboldt continues to evolve, Green Week remains both a celebration and a reminder—of where the culture came from, and where it’s going. It embodies the spirit of Humboldt: resilient, community-driven, and deeply connected to the land.
With love from Humboldt, The Cannifest / Humboldt Green Events Team
